Re: Thoughts please
Why are you pot betting the river?
More often than not your only gonna get called in this situation if your beat.
You have to think what his likely holdings are when he check-calls the turn. A turned flush draw should definately cross your mind imo.
You got pretty unlucky in the hand but I think with a bit of pot control you'd still be in the game.

Re: Thoughts please
My initial thought was...no way has he got flush, not with the bet on the flop then call the turn..
Im thinking 2 pair, or a6... at best and it didnt hit me. but trips.
Lack of experience i guess
Pot bet was daft... i see that now..
Next time ill pause and most likely check the river.
Rather protect the chips i have, then to walk into that again.. if i win then it was a nice pot anyway.

Re: Thoughts please
Checking the river would be a tad extreme - I would prefer a bet of like half the pot which means you get paid by weaker hands and enables you to get away easy enough if you need to.

Re: Thoughts please
Why would you fold a 2k bet on flop with stacks like they are?
Makes no sense, with the outs there and the small bet.
He may of being doing it just to get people to fold and you have outs.

Re: Thoughts please
I think the implied odds make for an easy call on the flop

Re: Thoughts please
Ill take from this.
Think more about what the other player has
Dont committe all chips when other possabilities are there.
Should of bet more on the turn too.
Ty for the advice Beast....and your contribution hoooders :-)

Re: Thoughts please
you played the hand reasonably well until the river. i would of called the 2000 flop bet, 2overs and the gut shot. maybe u should of bet more on the turn, but i dont disagree with the turn bet(value bet tbh u want a call) but the river u have to check, there was enough in the pot to be happy with(if u were still ahead, his check was sneaky and i would of thought i was still ahead, but i wouldnt of bet it. (or a small value bet like the turn) but i think if u bet he shoves on you anyway
in hindsight a bigger bet on the turn might of made him pass, but tbh u just got unlucky.

Re: Thoughts please
I have to agree with hoooders here. No way am I taking part in this pot as I am only looking at a gutshot for a winning out imo.
With the sb betting out at that sort of flop there are too many hands he could have. Str8s, 2 pair & a set are all possibilities. My 8 & 9 as overs are cards I would not want to hit on the turn as it could essentially lead to me bleeding chips chips on a hand I may already be crushed in. This leaves me looking for a 7.
When he flat calls the turn bet alarms should be going off (albeit fairly quietly) about a possible flush draw. Any heart on the riv and I'm checking that board all week long and twice on Sundays!
At the end of the day it's certainly not the worst play to call the flop bet but it's just not in me to go for gutshots. Not the way I have played the game and not something I would do in the future either. I think gutshot calling is a low percentage play long term.
After this hand I would've been sitting on 32,500+ chips and looking forward to the rest of the MTT.
Lots of good replies to this one so far though and it's great to have so many at the forum now with the confidence to express clearly and concisely exactly what their strategy would be.

Re: Thoughts please
I cant honestly say if id play for gutshots in the same situation again or not... On the flop with one needed ill possibly look to the turn for it, HOWEVER im no longer chasing draws by fishing, that part of my game has gone.
Maybe ill look at it from your side kenny for a few days and see if it makes any overall difference to how i play.. and if so then great stuff :-)
As for the last part of your post.... RE: people expressing their views as they wish... I think its great.. and i also think my new relaxed attitude to advice rather then thinking its a slating is helping, its allowing people to comment with out me being the COCK who just gets mad at them and ruins the thread.
Thanks guys for all the advice as usual, a few nice tips to be taken from it, and i think for now ill go with kenny's ideas... see how it works out.
If that fails then ill go with geordie and bet bigger on the turn.
Peace out
