Reached ft in 4$ HS on laddies with 64k. 1st place has 200k and blinds are 8k.
I'm in 8th position with 9s UTG, in normal circumstances i wuda folded but this time i took the aggressive approach and went allin...ran into Js.
What would u have done ?

I'm never a fan of shoving the low stack from ep with a med or low pair, but 99 is definitely borderline. And your stack is borderline too, with 6bbs or less its an easy shove, but with 6bbs left after the blinds go through you, you still have some fold equity.

Hmm tricky one, i'll get back to it when im a bit more awake.

oh and trapsetter - HS means High stack.

    well,

you are not folding to a re-raise once you have raised,

folding 99 is not an option with your stack

I think I also shove all in

If you gave aq or ak u r also shoving

just ul you ran into one

but I deffo not folding either.

    Thanks for your input Banksy.
The reason I came up with folding 9s is because for a long time I've blown out in 9th or 10th place due to stack size, monsters getting cracked or running into one..lol
For some reason if I get past those places I tend to do well
This has become a habit and most largely lack of confidence in ft.Gotta nip those gremlins out!

I think i get them in here - youre going to be down to 6bbs if you fold the next 3 hands, got to look to move now, and 99 is ideal, even in 1st pos imho

I had exactly the same in Grandslam's Sunday night 250K, first hand at the FT utg 99 allin I was around 8th as well ran into JJ AND KK lol

After a lot of discussion on a certain trading forum, the push was not so bad but I could have waited. If you had been extreme shortstacked then sure it is a monster, but if you can spend a round or two getting to know all the table you may find better opportunities.

lol at JJ and KK - harsh!

and yeah thats pretty much how i see it - the push isn't a "bad" play by any means, but i dont think the fold is too bad either. I reckon theres a 5050 shot youre going to get a better chance to get your chips in, either with a better hand, or with more chance of it getting through uncontested.

if your table (and the other one - you should be watching it!) were fairly loose, then you mbe better waiting for a better shot, rather than take on the entire new table!

all in or fold, i dont think either is particularly bad, its one of those moments when u can go either way i think.

Your a complete nit if you fold 99s in this situation

also on a 10seater table, 99s is on average the best starting hand each time

No brainer here, you have an over average pair and you have a stack equal to 8 bb or an M of under 5. Not sure what hand you are waiting for, assuming antes are in you are going to pick up the blinds about 85% of the time which are going to increase your stack by some 25-30%.

The times you get calls you will rarely be dominated, there are only 5 hands you dont want to see, the rest of the time you are racing or dominating which is exactly what you want given your near dire position.
If you prefer to ladder up the prizes then by all means fold but if you want to attack the top 2 places then you simply must shove.

    i'd of pushed defo.

On a very tight table tho, where you think theres a good chance that

    a) either your sb, button or cutoff will be folded round to you

    and

    b) youre unlikely to be called pushing from those spots except by a big hand..

i think theres a case for the fold.

also on the tighter table youre unlikely to be called by anything youre dominating or way ahead of, whereas on a normal or loose table you could easily find yourself getting called by a lower pair or A rag and be miles ahead.
