So playing a lot of MTT poker as i like to do it got me thinking about how often i make a FT.

Is there a guideline on how many FT's a player should aim to make expressed as a percentage of their total games played ?

It all depends on fields and prize pools tbh. Id much prefer one final table and win it as opposed to 5 finishes in 8th 9th 10th etc.

Funny as soon as i posted this i thought geez i shoulda included a range on players as i knew this response was out there. Silly me !

Well lets call it average fields of 1-400 players.

Buy in dont really matter cause we would have to expect any player would be looking to make the same amount of FT's within their bankroll range

Again mate it depends on 1st places compared to 10th places. If there are say 200 players which are the games I play id say 1 in every 15-20 is a good target . I tend to get less final tables than that but alot more 1sts than 10ths as i get very aggressive close to the bubble and take my gambles there (as rick will tell you)so either end up with a big stack or no chips at all. Other players play differently and try and grind up the places.

My stats run through HM filter

    0 - 1500 players :
Omaha: (Hilo & Plo, hilo figures are better but combined)
    Made Cash 38% : Made FT 14%
    Hold'em :
    Made Cash 21% : Made FT 6%

    1500 - 3500 players :
    Made Cash 24% : Made FT 5%

    3500 - 5000 players :
    Made Cash 23% : Made FT 3%

    5000+ players : (sunday games & large low buy-in GTD's)
    Made Cash 26% : Made FT 1%

Whats interesting is the biger the field the easier it is to cash ? good examples are stars daily's the $40 & $90k large fields but lots of 50 - 100 spot finishes $120 - $600 range, but as always in these field size'z there will be a point where your AA (or the like) is all-in late in the game and gets out drawn, the days it wins are the FT days.

The Roi% change is dramatic vs. the buy-in also, because lets be honest you don't play a $5 re-buy the same way as a $100 re-buy
