Decided to enter DTD's £25 comp to burn it off, and 130 odd players later -
Seems playing in a surly mood is the way forward.

20%+ reg fee is shocking but i suppose they have to con money out of the punters some way as they are a [b]failing buisness

Bainn wrote:There were some erroneous reports that were published which totally blew the situation out of proportion, DTD was not imminently closing as these stories made out. The sudden rates increase imposed by the council plus the unfortunate problem of being unable to claw back some other costs meant Rob was looking a quite a big loss this year. However, there is no sign or intention to close the club at present and continues to be the BEST place in the UK to play poker, hosting some of the biggest tournaments like the English Poker Open for example.
As to the reg fee, I think that given the tax situation and that the dealers at DTD are the finest in the country that it is not too big of a problem.
Rob, who is a selfmade millionaire, gives 100% in anything he does, be it his other businesses, his charity or his football club. The man bent over backwards to get everything right, from the tiniest fittings to the look of the whole venue and to secure a full casino licence to make sure everything was legal re the 2005 gambling act. The hell he put himself through to achieve everything was phenomenal, not the actions of man pursuing just a hobby.

you really are f ing stupid
he was on the boylepoker poker show and said himself it was a hobby. he knows its a losing buisness and he openly said oh im not in it for the money. listen to the archives yourself
fact is if he doesnt get in gaming machines or something to stop the losses then the club will close eventually. he is a buisness man after all and im sure he is not going to continue bleeding money into something that will NEVER make money...
...unless he gets in roulette etc
and whats the bs about tax law. you would have a hard job finding that many clubs that charge that % of a reg fee because it makes the game way to hard to beat

Overated your quite the negative kind of fella aint ya
I tell ya you lot dont know how lucky you are to have easily accessible places to play poker. Id be prepared to pay that any day of the week for a decent game in a good venue locally....Why....Cause there aint none !!!
Overated wrote:ive been there a year ago and got one of the worst dealers ever in a 2/4/6 live straddle plo game. we even had to ask for a new dealer as the one we got was slow at counting up the maths
when your playing a game where every stack on the table is 1k+ and some where alot more then there is no excuse for bad dealers
and having re thought about the reg fee. maybe you dont notice it as much playin small tourneys like that but if it were 1k tourneys you were playing and the reg fee was 250 im sure you would have sumthing to say about it

the 24% thing is simple.
