Post  Bainn Tue Sep 01, 2009 6:05 pm

So, after being severely Donkeyed in the APAT WCOAP HORSE event, I found myself very "Tilty" which is exceedingly rare for me.

Decided to enter DTD's £25 comp to burn it off, and 130 odd players later -

    Tilt & £25... Brag10

Seems playing in a surly mood is the way forward.

    so your name is christian?

20%+ reg fee is shocking but i suppose they have to con money out of the punters some way as they are a failing buisness

Indeed, my given name is Christian.

    "Con" ? ?

Dusk Till Dawn has never conned anyone, they have always been open about things and are infact probably the only venue in the uk that actually cares what the players want. The reg fees had to be increased due to the goverments recent increase in taxes affecting the cardroom, they offer 50% off the buyin if you buy in online. I believe DTD are the only uk venue to offer a facility where you can buyin online up to 2 weeks before the event.

    "Failing" ? ?

I would like to know your reasoning or source of information that leads you to make such statement.

and of course they arnt conning anyone but charging a 20%+ reg fee is more or less a con. its disgracefull

There were some erroneous reports that were published which totally blew the situation out of proportion, DTD was not imminently closing as these stories made out. The sudden rates increase imposed by the council plus the unfortunate problem of being unable to claw back some other costs meant Rob was looking a quite a big loss this year. However, there is no sign or intention to close the club at present and continues to be the BEST place in the UK to play poker, hosting some of the biggest tournaments like the English Poker Open for example.

As to the reg fee, I think that given the tax situation and that the dealers at DTD are the finest in the country that it is not too big of a problem.

Rob, who is a selfmade millionaire, gives 100% in anything he does, be it his other businesses, his charity or his football club. The man bent over backwards to get everything right, from the tiniest fittings to the look of the whole venue and to secure a full casino licence to make sure everything was legal re the 2005 gambling act. The hell he put himself through to achieve everything was phenomenal, not the actions of man pursuing just a hobby.

£6 as a reg fee for a £25 MTT is 24% of the buy in! In anyone's language that's a rip off!

you really are f ing stupid

he was on the boylepoker poker show and said himself it was a hobby. he knows its a losing buisness and he openly said oh im not in it for the money. listen to the archives yourself

fact is if he doesnt get in gaming machines or something to stop the losses then the club will close eventually. he is a buisness man after all and im sure he is not going to continue bleeding money into something that will NEVER make money...

...unless he gets in roulette etc

and whats the bs about tax law. you would have a hard job finding that many clubs that charge that % of a reg fee because it makes the game way to hard to beat

While it is a large % of the buyin, I understand the reasons behind it and when the overall service of the venue is taken into account I think it's worth it.

I know Rob, and as I have stated in my other post, that while he may consider this venture more of a hobby than his other businesses, it does not mean he puts his all into DTD and he has gotten top, reliable people to run it for him.

"BS" ? Please check out the recent increase on taxes from gaming, DTD is classed as a casino with a full casino licence that no other dedicated poker venue has in the UK, something he worked really hard to get to be 100% legal. The other non poker cardrooms in the UK are not legal or regulated and do not have to meet the demands of the new taxes. Seems Rob is going getting punished for being legal while the authorities still do not understand the poker market as a whole.

I am not saying that DTD is not losing money, I know this, but DTD and the guys behind are coming back, the place is never quiet with the regular tournaments every night there are at least 9 cash games running from 0.50p/£1.00 NLHE to £5.00/£5.00 Dealers choice.

ive been there a year ago and got one of the worst dealers ever in a 2/4/6 live straddle plo game. we even had to ask for a new dealer as the one we got was slow at counting up the maths

when your playing a game where every stack on the table is 1k+ and some where alot more then there is no excuse for bad dealers

and having re thought about the reg fee. maybe you dont notice it as much playin small tourneys like that but if it were 1k tourneys you were playing and the reg fee was 250 im sure you would have sumthing to say about it

Should have realised you would be the special case and had the rare experience of a "Bad" dealer at DTD.

    1,
you would think that ppl could just congratulate someone on a nice little win.

    2,
    the 24% thing is simple.
if ur ok with it play.
if ur not ok with it go somewhere else.
