"Division 3
By Matchday 5, it was clear that this division would be any three from four to gain promotion. Sunderland, Nottingham, Luton, and Kent were all battling it out. The volume of players from Luton and the tight knit team of Sunderland meant that by Matchday 9, both clubs had secured promotion, and Sunderland had been crowned Division 3 champions.
So it all came down to the final matchday to decide who would be joining them in Division 2 next season. Kent poker club held the stronger hand being three points clear of a faultering Nottingham poker club. Only a win for Nottingham would be good enough and hope that Kent picked up zero points. Both Sunderland and Luton though were playing one final hurrah in the division, so the odds were stacked against Nottingham.
As we hit the final table, it wasn’t looking good for Nottingham. Club captain Jack ‘sambarnbrac’ Prime was joined by Christian ‘Bainn’ Briggs and they were up against four from Luton, two from Sunderland and a lone Swansea player.
The call from Captain Jack was, we need a couple of Luton players out early, and that’s exactly what happened. The game progressed, and with five players left, another call from Captain Jack. We need to lose a Luton player in fifth, otherwise we’re doomed. Out went Luton club captain, Warren Fenwick, in 5th position. Was the impossible mission actually possible ?
When the final table was down to just one Luton player and the two Nottingham team mates, Captain Jack gave the final battle command. ‘Bainn, we need to finish 1-2.’
Luton player, JP Round, fought well, but was unable to overcome the two Nottingham players, and eventually ‘Bainn’ ended his night in 3rd place. They had done it, completed the impossible dream, they were the Teddy Sheringham and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer for Nottingham and Kent poker club were Bayern Munich. Bainn was like a Johnny Wilkinson drop goal to clinch the world cup, Captain Jack even wanted to marry him.
So, Captain Jack and Bainn saved the world for Nottingham, it’s the sort of thing you would expect to see on Torchwood or Dr Who, but it happened in the APAT Online National League.
The season ends with Sunderland promoted as champions, and they will be joined by Luton and Nottingham in Division 2 for next season."
